Institute of Foreign Affairs (IFA), Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Lao PDR in collaboration with the Embassy organized a lecture on the theme of ‘Engaging with an Emergent New India: Expanding Collaboration with Lao PDR and ASEAN’ on 02 Februaty 2024 to mark the 68th Anniversary of establishment of India- Lao PDR diplomatic relations and 10 Years of India’s Act East Policy. Lao PDR and India established diplomatic relations on 02 February 1956. Both countires. The close friendly and mutually supportive relations between India and Lao PDR go back long into history and are based upon deep cultural, and people-to-people linkages, as ancient civilisations. 

2. Mr. Bounleua Phandanouvong, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs delivered the opening remarks and noted that the two countries have been working together closely, in a spirit of trust and confidence, to further strengthen our cooperation in all areas at bilateral and multilateral level.

3. Ambassador of India to Lao PDR Mr. Prashant Agrawal delivered the keynote address highlighting the recent developments in India, and underlined main pillars of India -Lao PDR bilateral cooperation. He noted about new areas including digital infrastructure, trade, investment, & tourism, to further strengthen cooperation between two countries. Ambassador also highlighted initiatives taken by India under the Act East Policy and noted that India’s excellent relations with Lao PDR is an important and integral component of India’s relations with the ASEAN.

4. Mrs. Vithaya Xayavong, Director General of Institute of Foreign Affairs delivered the welcome remarks and noted that such activities play an important role to inform present and future generations about cooperation between two countries.

5. More than 125 participants including Ambassador Southam Sakonhninhom, President, Laos-India Friendship Association, as also senior representatives of various line ministries, and students of National University of Laos attended the event.
